In 1916 Samuel Kamaka decided to start his own ukulele business in the basement of his house in Kaimuki. By 1921 he was able to hire employees and move out of his basement to a workshop. By the late 20s there were an estimated 15 ukulele manufacturers in Hawaii. The competition was stiff, but a pineapple shaped ukulele designed by Sam Kamaka, Sr. helped his company outlast his competitors and within a decade, Kamaka was the only Hawaiian ukulele maker left. The Kamaka family has been dedicated to building skillfully-handcrafted ukuleles for nearly a century. The heritage of ukulele making at Kamaka Hawaii is preserved by second and third generation Hawaiian luthiers, as well as the many talented craftsmen at the Kakaako factory in Honolulu. We are proud to carry the incredible Kamaka brand and gladly give you a free case and 2 day shipping with you purchase. Email for pictures of your new Kamaka ukulele!!
